Appreciative Inquiry Foundations: Theory, Practice and Application
This LIMITED ENROLLMENT workshop is designed for managers, human resource professionals, organisational and community facilitators, from corporate, governmental and not-for-profit organisations - anyone who wants a solid grounding in the theory and practice of Appreciative Inquiry.  Developed over the past decade, this workshop uses an experience-based model that prepares consultants to work with AI in client systems and prepares leaders and managers to use AI for working with organisation and community change.

This in-depth workshop will cover both the theory and practice of Appreciative Inquiry. Special attention will be given to the power of positive questions; the simultaneity of inquiry and change; the function of narrative and metaphor in human systems transformation; how to deal with spiraling vocabularies of human deficit, how to create alignment across functional, generational, cultural and technical boundaries; and how to build global organising capacity to meet the challenges of the next millennium. In addition to becoming familiar with tools for applying AI in organisations, workshop participants will:

  • Receive support in actually practising appreciative topic identification, question construction, interviewing skills, grounded visioning, translating the vision into innovative processes, practices, roles and structures and implementing for sustainability
  • Work through case examples of actual Appreciative Inquiry consulting projects that are brought by other participants
  • Become familiar with the multi-disciplinary principles, research and theory base of AI
  • Develop their ability to apply the AI framework to a variety of interventions such as: Strategic Planning, Internal Auditing, Organisational Redesign, Mergers, Teambuilding, Programme Formulation and Evaluation, and Diversity.
  • Learn how to introduce this strikingly different approach in ways congruent with AI philosophy.

Appreciative Inquiry Human Interaction & Group Process:
Theory, Practice and Application

Building on the basics of Appreciative Inquiry learnt in the Foundations course (a prerequisite to attending all advanced training), this course provides the foundation for personal and professional effectiveness by giving you a deeper understanding of the AI process and the ability to apply this knowledge in daily interactions. Achieving personal and organizational success is a strength learned from positive and effective interactions with others and an understanding of group dynamics. Learn how to enhance your interactions by gaining a clear and practical understanding of how groups form, work together and evolve and gain the skills necessary in today’s fast-paced, multicultural and communications-centric work environment to adapt to different communication styles.

Participating in this program:

  • Gives you a solid foundation for understanding the theory and processes of group development.
  • Increases your personal and group effectiveness in a diverse, multicultural environment.
  • Generates the capacity to give and receive feedback in a supportive and generative way.
  • Improves your ability to understand your own strengths and those of others.
  • Generates a deeper understanding of group development and group dynamics through a social constructionist framework.
  • Enhances self-awareness.

What previous participants have said about this workshop:

  • “Invaluable. This lab has enabled me to learn more about myself in 5 days than I have learnt in 25 years – it has renewed my energy, focus and sense of purpose. Inspiring & life affirming.”     (Debra, UK)
  • “An absolute ‘must’ if you want to develop your skills in AI.”  (Freddie, ZAR)

Appreciative Leadership: Theory, Practice and Application
This interactive workshop will be based on the need we see to cope with today’s rapid developments in our organizations and our communities. It is not only the rapidly changing work environment which drives us to reflect, but also the fact that these developments seem to take place in a shift in our times. It is a shift that requires a fresh look into the position of leadership and the possibilities offered to us when we apply Appreciative Leadership.

This program will cover:

  • New models dealing with aspects such as the value chain of leadership
  • The need as an appreciative leader to slow down in order to achieve balance
  • Understanding how and why strength-based approaches such as AI are well suited to facilitate change
  • Applying findings from theories such as Social Constructionism, Spiral Dynamics and U Theory to the question of leadership
  • Exploring “How do we change the way we change so we can sustain our communities and organisations in the 21st Century”
  • Actively engage the 9 practices (Presence, Interconnectedness, Humility, Discipline, Courage, Integrity, Transparency, Appreciation, Reflection) of the Appreciative Leader.

This is a new offering which South Africa will have the privilege of being the first to host!
